On Friday, in the city of Horta, the Regional Secretary for the Economy defended a "new marketing strategy for the tourism sector of the Region, one which emphasises active tourism options" that the Azores can offer to its potential visitors.
This idea was proposed on Friday by Vasco Cordeiro at the end of an audition with the Economics Commission of the Legislative Assembly regarding the Medium-Term Policy Orientations (2009-2012) and the Regional Budget and Investment Plan for 2009.
Speaking about the implementation of the plan in the ongoing year, the Secretary underlined the "substantial increase of funds for the incentives systems, which made possible the creation of "conditions to improve the capacities of adaptation of regional companies to the present crisis."
With regard to air and sea transports, the Secretary said that most of the investment funds for this sector will be applied in the acquisition of new air-planes for SATA Air Açores and in the construction of new boats for the transport of passengers between the islands.
The Secretary said that several " infrastructures that are essential to improve the transportation system of the archipelago will be built", such as the re-qualification of the coast-line of the city of Horta and several construction projects for the islands of S.Jorge, Pico, Flores and Corvo.
He also said that with these investments, the Regional Government aims to "address one of the most important factors to the development of the Azores, the improvement of the air and sea transportation system."
