Ponta Delgada ,  June 25, 2018

Azores welcome about thirty young people under Eurodyssey programme

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training highlighted in Ponta Delgada the importance of the Region's participation in the Eurodyssey programme. According to her, it provides young Azoreans and those applying for a traineeship in the archipelago with the opportunity to contact with other professional and socio-cultural realities.

Paula Andrade spoke while welcoming a group of 27 young people from several European countries. As she emphasised, "324 young people from other European countries, within and outside the European Community, have chosen the Azores for their traineeship since 2012, while 200 Azoreans have undertaken their traineeships under this programme in several European regions."

Over the next six months, the Government of the Azores, through the Vice-Presidency, will provide the 27 participants with a monthly scholarship, a Portuguese Language and Culture course, and a practical traineeship at a regional organisation.

Practical internships will be carried out in areas such as agriculture, arts and audiovisual, business and life sciences, personal services, environmental protection or humanities. They will be promoted by entities based on the islands of S. Miguel, Terceira, Faial and Corvo, which will also benefit the "development of the local business fabric."

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training added that these trainees come from the regions of Brussels-Capital and Wallonia (Belgium), Catalonia, Valencian Community and Murcia (Spain), Istria (Croatia) and Arges (Romania).

The Eurodyssey Programme promotes the participation of young people holding vocational training or higher education qualifications, aged between 18 and 30, in professional traineeships in the countries represented at the Assembly of European Regions (ARE).
