Marta Guerreiro says "10 Fest" plays "key role" in gastronomic experiences of Azores destination

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated today that the "10 Fest - 10 days, 10 chefs" has played a "key role" in the gastronomic experiences of the Azores destinations, where visitors "can taste menus of unique quality in terms of flavours, places and emotions. This is exactly what we want for tourism in the Azores, which already distinguishes us."

"This attitude to turn the archipelago into a place capable of promoting its resources - both human and gastronomic - and leveraging in a unique symbiosis that enhances their true value will continue to be the path we want to follow," said Marta Guerreiro. In this regard, she added that gastronomy is "a key product to boost the local and regional economy as well as to attract various market segments."

"These are 10 days with 10 chefs who will meet with the school staff and students, contributing to a joint reflection about Azorean cuisine and the potential of its updating," said Marta Guerreiro, who spoke in Ponta Delgada at the presentation of the event.

According to the Regional Secretary, the Tourism and Hotel School has been raising the Azores to prominence since 2012 with the organisation of a gastronomic festival and the reinterpretation of local products by giving them a new market value. Moreover, it has provided its students with the possibility of contacting with some of the world' most respected chefs, being a crucial experience in their professional future."

"From June 20 to 29, the world comes to our table and we take our table to the world with the most respected chefs, where experiences will be lived and shared. We will begin our journey with the gastronomic elements that differentiate us, tastings as well as with pastry, cocktail and wine demonstrations, which are always awaited with high expectations," said Marta Guerreiro.

In this context, the Regional Secretary conveyed her expectations that this will be "another edition to sit at the table and travel through the most varied flavours." As she emphasised, this is an event where "surprise is the key factor of the palate," being one of the "most renowned gastronomic festivals in the country and a much-awaited event in the Azores."
