Video reveals various dimensions of House of Autonomy project

The various dimensions of the House of Autonomy project are, from today, available for public knowledge, through a video presentation that will be published on the Regional Government's Internet Portal.

At the address https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGsijV6Bu18&feature=youtu.be, visitors will get to know the physical and digital components of this project, which assumes itself as a space of history, memory, Identity and citizenship.

The House of Autonomy was conceived with a regional scope, both in the multiplication of centres throughout the Region or in its ties to distant audiences, as provided by new technologies. At this starting phase, It includes four dimensions, namely the recovery of Conceição Palace heritage, the research project, the museum programme and the digital platform.

The video presentation of this project shows, among other aspects, the ongoing renewal works of Conceição Palace, one of the most representative buildings of the political memory of Autonomy. The intervention will eradicate the termite infestation, correct structural weaknesses and provide accessibility and safety conditions.

This former convent, head of the Regional Government since 1976, will host the long-term exhibition on "Citizenship, Autonomy and 'Azorianity.'" The project also intends to create a tour to the primitive area of the building discovered during the works, with special emphasis on the choir screen and the lower choir, the foundling wheel and other findings of significant historical and archaeological value.

It will also provide a cultural offer directed to different audiences as well as an information centre, a socio-educational service for children and young people and leisure spaces for visitors.

The House of Autonomy is a project that is not limited to physical infrastructures; it also includes a significant digital component, through a portal that will provide several audiences with free access to information.

The video now available presents the features of the innovative platform developed in free software - the Autonomy of Digital Azores - on which the House of the Autonomy Portal will operate, being the most comprehensive communication infrastructure of this project.

In fact, the portal allows visitors to become acquainted with the mission and operation of the House of Autonomy, have access to updated information, visit exhibitions and virtual collections from different sources, consult the chronology of the autonomic process, conduct free-text searches on this theme within a documentary database and create an individualised space "My House of Autonomy," which will allow, for example, the sharing of content.
