2020 plan intends to improve Civil Protection infrastructures

The Regional Secretary for Health stressed in Horta that “prevention and readiness in the assistance to populations are a relevant area" in the Regional Government's investment proposal for 2020.

Teresa Machado Luciano spoke Wednesday at a hearing at the Committee on General Policy of the Legislative Assembly. On the occasion, she highlighted an estimated investment of about nine million Euros in Civil Protection intended to reinforce infrastructures.

Next year, the expansion of Lajes do Pico fire station and the fire unit of Altares, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, should be completed. The construction of the fire stations of Povoação, São Miguel Island, and Horta, Faial Island, should also begin in 2020.

A portion of the proposed investment for next year will be directed to the Region's 17 fire brigades so that they can "continue to improve the quality of urgent patient transport," said Teresa Machado Luciano.

The Regional Secretary also stated that next year's plan will continue to focus on training professionals and raising awareness among the population, namely through the Civil Protection Clubs of the archipelago's schools.
