Santa Cruz da Graciosa ,  July 28, 2020

Graciosa with 1.4 million-Euro investment in housing in the last four years, announces Andreia Cardoso

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity announced in Santa Cruz da Graciosa that this island has benefited from support in the housing area amounting to more than 1.4 million Euros in the last legislative period, covering 138 families.

"As regards this investment, a considerable part was focused on housing rehabilitation, representing almost 1.2 million Euros. It contributed to the rehabilitation of the homes of 88 families, restoring the safety and dignity conditions so that they can be properly inhabited," said Andreia Cardoso.

The Regional Secretary also pointed out that about 153 thousand Euros were allocated to the Lease Incentive programme, covering 49 families, and 114 thousand Euros were invested in the construction of housing to be allocate under a supported lease scheme. In this context, she pointed out that two dwellings located in the Dores neighbourhood were allocated under this scheme in the current legislative period.

The Regional Secretary spoke at the granting ceremony of support to seven families on the island of Graciosa for the recovery of their homes through the "Renovated Home, Inhabited Home" programme in the "Renovating for Living" component, an investment of 107 thousand Euros.

On the occasion, cooperation agreements were signed with the parish councils of Santa Cruz, Praia and Luz for the rehabilitation of several dwellings, which will be allocated to families facing severe housing shortage in those parishes, amounting of 10 thousand Euros each.

During this visit to Graciosa, Andreia Cardoso also delivered a nine-seat vehicle to the Nossa Senhora da Luz Social and Parish Centre under the "Solidarity in Motion" programme.

The vehicle is intended to benefit all the services provided by the institution, namely the Free Time Activity Centre, the Social Centre, Local Centre for the Prevention and Combat to Domestic and Gender Violence of Graciosa and the "Magical Farm" project.

"This vehicle will replace the current one, which is in an advanced state of corrosion and wear, as it is the primary goal of this programme, representing an investment of more than 22 thousand euros divided in three economic years," said the Regional Secretary.
