Government reinforces water supply for farming on S. Jorge Island
The Regional Secretary for Forestry and Agriculture visited this Tuesday the construction works for an Integrated System of Water Supply to the POA (Agrarian Spatial Planning) of Beira/Rosais, which estimates the construction of two 500 m3 reservoirs, of 16 km of piping and the completion of 350 lanes in this agricultural area.
On the occasion, Noé Rodrigues stressed the construction of water collecting and storage infrastructures in the municipality of Velas, which includes a watering hole, the installation of three 250 m3 metallic reservoirs in Ribeira da Areia, Fonte da Bica, Ribeira da Urzelina and next to the Beira factory to use rainwater from the roof.
One of the reservoirs is already installed, while the other two have left the island of Terceira for S. Jorge, with the works to install the platforms for the reservoirs having already started.
For the Secretary, with the accomplishment of these investments, the Government of the Azores will assure a better distribution as well as a better rationalisation of water supply to farming on S. Jorge.
With regard to this island, the Government of the Azores has already implemented water supply infrastructures that are benefitting farms in the Ribeira Seca/Biscoitos area, particularly with the water collection and storage in a 500 m3 reservoir in Canada dos Touros and with the construction of two 250 m3 reservoirs in Bardinhos together with a distribution station.
