Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre presents May programming

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, opens on May 12 the "Exhibition - Index," curated by Nuno Faria and Nicolau Tudela, which marks the beginning of "Sonic Geometry," a project developed in partnership with RTP.

Under this project, which includes another three exhibition cycles, following the artistic residencies to take place throughout the year, artists will work with one biggest sound and visual archive collection of the 20th century in Portugal, the Audiovisual Archive of RTP.

The "Exhibition - Index" brings together works by Francisco Janes, Jonathan Saldanha, Laetitia Morais, Manon Harrois, Mariana Caló e Francisco Queimadela, Miguel Leal, Mike Cooter, Pedro Tropa, Pedro Tudela, Ricardo Jacinto, Sara Bichão and Tomás Cunha Ferreira.

The results of the "Art for All" Artistic Residency by dancer and choreographer Catarina Medeiros will be presented at the Contemporary Arts on May 18 at 9:30 PM, through the show "An essay on bodies," as part of the celebrations of the International Day of Museums.

This Artistic Residency has been held since March 1 at the Occupational Activity Centre of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Ribeira Grande with the aim of introducing dance and movement to people with intellectual disabilities.

In turn, the new album "Bad Water," which stemmed from "Filho da Mãe" project by musician Rui Carvalho, arrives at Arquipélago with a concert at the Blackbox on May 19 at 9:30 PM.

On May 25, the Contemporary Arts Centre promotes the exhibition of the documentary "Wine" at 9:30 PM, written by João da Ponte and André Laranjinha, who is also the director.

The documentary, entirely shot on the island of Pico, is co-produced by Alice's House, Moby Dick, Agecta - Agency for Territorial Cohesion and Pico Museum.

The special activity developed by the Educational Services for the last Sunday of May, directed to people over 16 years of age, will take place on May 27. It will feature the participation of dancer Catarina Medeiros, who will develop the theme "Dance for all."

The available activities of the Educational Service may be consulted at the electronic address arquipelagocentrodeartes.azores.gov.pt. Registrations should be emailed to [email protected] or through the form available on the website.
