In order to celebrate the Europe Day, the Regional Government will organise a contest on multimedia works titled as “Azores, where Europe goes further” (Açores, onde a Europa chega mais longe), an initiative that integrates the programme of the European Region of the year 2010.
This contest on multimedia works with the duration between 1 and 3 minutes is addressed at all students from the 10th to the 12th form in the Azores and it is developed in two phases: the first phase where all teams will compete at an Island level and the final phase where the nine winning teams, representing all Azorean Islands, will compete.
With regard to Corvo Island, an exception was made in the contest rules to allow the participation of the students from the Corvo Basic Education School.
According to the contest rules, the teams that will participant teams are made up by three students and one teacher in charge and there will no limits in the number of participant teams per school. The registration period for the contest will take place until February 26 and the works must be submitted until April 1, 2010.
The winning team will win a trip to Brussels which will include visits to EU institutions and to the most emblematic venues of the political decision-making centre of Europe. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the best multimedia work, for the second and third place, as well as to the participants in the final phase.
The celebration session of Europe Day, which will include a programme of recreational and cultural activities, will take place on May 6 at the Flores Basic Education and Secondary School, chosen this year as it is symbolically located in the westernmost territory of the European Union.
With this initiative, integrated in the European Region of the Year 2010, the Government of the Azores aims to contribute to a wider dissemination of the themes concerning the European Union, to stimulate the interest and participation of Azorean students in activities related to these issues and to boost the creativity through the use of the new audiovisual and communication media.
