Regional Government safeguards routing of quarantined passengers on arrival in the Region

The Council of the Government approved today a resolution that safeguards the routing of air passengers under the current the concession agreement for regular inter-island air service between the Region and SATA Air Açores. It applies to cases where passengers comply or have complied with quarantine or prophylactic isolation under the terms established by legal or regulatory determination and in other situations determined by the Regional Health Authority.

In fact, passengers travelling to the Region through the access gateways to the archipelago, subject to quarantine or prophylactic isolation, will continue to be guaranteed the right to be transported by SATA Air Açores to their destination island.

Until this date, when passengers complied voluntary quarantine or prophylactic isolation on arrival in the Region, established by legal or regulatory determination or by the Regional Health Authority's determination, the possibility of being rerouted was impossible as it exceeded the maximum period of 24 hours.

Hence, the resolution now approved safeguards passengers' right to rerouting under the principles determining the establishment of this scheme, even if, for reasons not attributable to passengers, the 24-hour period previously established for routing is exceeded.

The resolution approved by the Council of the Government covers the routing of passengers since March 19.

Therefore, passengers who, for the reasons mentioned above, had to stay more than 24 hours at the access gateway to the Region and incurred the costs of their routing, should contact SATA Air Açores for reimbursement.
