Ponta Delgada ,  June 25, 2019

3,848 more employed Azoreans and 2,767 fewer enrolled in occupational programmes since the beginning of the legislative term in the Azores

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training highlighted in Ponta Delgada the "good results" achieved through the employment measures implemented by the Regional Government. They have resulted in "3,848 more employed Azores and 2,767 fewer Azoreans enrolled in socio-occupational integration programmes" since the beginning of the legislative term.

Paula Andrade spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the Stage restaurant owned by Grupo Anjos in the context of job creation incentives. On the occasion, she stressed that "the creation of more jobs clearly reflects the positive economic flow in the Region as evidenced by the decrease of 1,177 Azoreans benefiting from socio-professional integration measures last year."

The Regional Director also pointed out the data recently published by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) regarding May. In the specific case of the Azores, "they confirm, once more, the consistent decrease in the number of unemployed and the continuous and sustained growth of employment."

"The 14.5% decline registered in May this year, compared to the same period of the previous year, demonstrates that the Regional Government's policies have yielded results based on increased public and private investment, economic activity growth and on the creation of more and better employment," stated the government official.

According to the IEFP data, the regional Qualification and Employment Agencies registered 7,136 unemployed in May, corresponding to 1,208 fewer registered people looking for a first job and new jobs compared with the same month of 2018.

With regard to job vacancies filled in, i.e., the response to job offers, there was an increase of 22.1% in the Azores in May.

The Regional Director also noted that "the job placement ratio, i.e., the ratio of job responses to job offers stood at 84.7%.

"In the area of employment, we continue to see positive results, reflecting the measures implemented by the Regional Government in a concerted manner," Paula Andrade said, adding that "the most important thing is that many Azoreans are 'feeling' these good results."

"Many Azoreans have had the opportunity to effectively enter the labour market, following the active employment measures. This is also the result of the demands of markets and entrepreneurs, who need the best and most qualified human resources," stated the government official.

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training ensured that the Government's commitment will continue to focus "on improving the qualifications and skills of the Azoreans."
