Regional Government intends to intensify tourism promotion of the Azores in the United Kingdom
Carlos César today said that the Regional Government, in accordance with its policy of conferring great importance to the promotion of the Azores abroad and increasing its international notoriety, will programme, in cooperation with the embassy of the United Kingdom in Lisbon, a series of institutional visits with these ends in mind.
Alluding to the historical relationship between Portugal and the United Kingdom (UK), and to the links between the Azores and the UK in particular, exemplified by the exportation of oranges to that country and by events related to World War II, the President said the objective is to “associate something else to this notoriety and seek advantages, especially in the tourism sector, given that the United Kingdom is a large market.”
Carlos César met with Ambassador Alexander Ellis to exchange compliments and said that it is important to make the British aware of the historical relationship that their country had with the Azores in addition to knowing what the Region offers today; “environmental quality and a well qualified tourist sector that offers tranquillity and safety.”
The President of the Regional Government noted that circa twelve thousand British tourists visit the Azores every year.
