The Regional Secretary for Health thanked today all organisations of the social sector that joined the Regional Government in the context of the measures aimed at the prevention and containment of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Teresa Machado Luciano spoke in Ponta Delgada, where she visited Novo Dia - Social Inclusion Associations and Cáritas - São Miguel Island. On the occasion, she thanked “all the work they have done together with the Regional Health Service, through the Regional Directorate for Health and the Regional Directorate for Prevention and Control of Dependencies in this phase of the COVID-19 pandemic,” emphasising that these organisations“ have managed to adapt to the situation and to do a fantastic job." 
 
“We had a diagnosis of a positive case for COVID-19 infection in a socially excluded individual. Nevertheless, there was no contagion between the employees working at these organisations and the rest of the population, as the safety pathways and the Contingency Plan were efficiently implemented,” the Secretary said, highlighting “the effort and dedication of everyone who works here on a daily basis." 

Having identified a positive case for SARS-CoV-2 infection in the socially excluded population, Novo Dia Association and Cáritas have proceeded with the prophylactic isolation of their close contacts, providing accommodation and ensuring the daily monitoring of COVID-19 signs and symptoms. 

The Regional Secretary also praised the collaboration of ARRISCA - Regional Association for Rehabilitation and Sociocultural Integration, which provided for the care and surveillance of drug addicts staying at hotels and community rooms.

The Novo Dia Association also sheltered 14 individuals, while Cáritas sheltered 28 individuals. In turn, the Santa Clara Scouts Centre provided accommodation to eight people. 

The Azores Youth Rehabilitation Centre also joined this effort, through the provision of accommodation for 17 socially excluded individuals, who were guaranteed the essential conditions for quarantine. 

In addition, 89 people were accommodated in community rooms.
