Horta ,  November 14, 2017

Andreia Cardoso says Plan and Budget for 2018 respond to commitments made to families and institutions

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated in Horta that the purpose of the plan presented in the proposed Budget for 2018 is "to fulfil the commitments taken," highlighting those considered to be the four main axes that structure investments in Social Solidarity.

Andreia Cardoso spoke to the media after being heard at the Committee on Social Affairs of the Legislative Assembly, stressing that "this Plan and Budget comprise four major goals in the area of Social Solidarity." She highlighted "the full implementation of Community funds" as an essential aspect, namely the "conclusion of some of the most important actions and the beginning of others included in the investment plan."

Regarding this goal, the Regional Secretary pointed out that one of the major concerns of the Regional Government is to continue the redevelopment of social infrastructures available in the archipelago as well as to move forward with new projects aimed at meeting the needs identified in this area throughout the archipelago.

According to Andreia Cardoso, "the maintenance of a series of specific support measures" is another important axis of the Regional Government's action for Social Solidarity," mentioning the regional pension supplements, family allowance or the financial aid to cancer patients.

"The fourth axis concerns two legislative amendments included in the Budget for the Autonomous Region of the Azores," said the Regional Secretary. In this regard, she pointed out the widening of age groups covered by leisure centres and the need to ensure "the Regional Pension Supplement to the beneficiaries who were automatically transferred to the Social Inclusion Benefit."

"The Regional Government is also ambitious in the proposals presented in the Plan and, naturally, this ambition requires planning, which is what we have been doing," stressed the Secretary for Social Solidarity. She reiterated the need to "define priorities in terms of investment" by "fulfilling our commitments as set out in the Community funds planning and, then, by beginning the post-2020 planning [Portugal Programme]."

Andreia Cardoso was also heard today by the Committee on General Policy of the Legislative Assembly.
