Praia da Vitória ,  September 10, 2019

Sérgio Ávila says number of programmers needs to be increased to cope with growing demand from companies

The Vice-President of the Government stated that the Government intends to achieve under the "Terceira Tech Island" project "an installed training capacity of 60 trainees at a time, so that the number of programmers can be permanently increased,” pointing out the "significant demand from companies."

Sérgio Ávila spoke in Praia da Vitória on the sidelines of a visit to the new ITUp facilities, the second certified entity to train programmers under the "Terceira Tech Island" project.

According to the government official, there are already 13 companies located on Terceira Island and another two are currently under the recruitment phase for their future installation.

“The prospects we have in the near future are very positive with the continued establishment of companies in Praia da Vitória. These companies will be needing programmers and, therefore, our training must be intensified, always safeguarding a fundamental principle, which is quality,” stressed Sérgio Ávila.

“We have all the conditions to continue this project, which is changing Praia da Vitória and also Terceira Island in terms of skilled employment, wealth creation and development,” added the government official.

The Vice-President of the Government stated that the two new companies to be installed in Praia da Vitória are already in the process of installation, one of them being “a large company with annual turnover of more than 45 million Euros in Portugal that has already begun its recruitment process.”

ITUp provides a specific outsystem training, complementing the training already provided by the Code Academy with capacity to train 20 programmers at a time.

"We believe that we will be in a position to greatly increase the number of installed programmers," said Sérgio Ávila.
