"Open Days" to bring more than 5,000 young Azoreans closer to recruiting companies

The Azorean Government will hold three "Open Days" sessions on Terceira, Faial and São Miguel. More than 5,000 young people will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with regional public measures for the promotion of entrepreneurship and employability as well as to directly contact with about 40 companies and recruiters from several sectors of activity.

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stated in Ponta Delgada that the format of this initiative is based on an "open day." According to her, "the main goal is to promote contact with the business world" with a view to fostering youth employment and meeting the recruitment needs of companies.

"The event is based on the premise that it is possible for young people to qualify and get jobs in their Region and that there are opportunities." Hence, they will also be contributing "to the economic development of the Azores and the competitiveness of companies," said Paula Andrade.

The Regional Director also highlighted the scope of this initiative developed by the Vice-Presidency of the Government for the number of young people involved, its future extension to more islands and also for the creation of an app and two pages on social networks.

"On the event website, young people will not only have access to all job offers, but also the possibility of submitting their resume and checking the programme that best suits their situation or that will be the most adequate to their profile," said Paula Andrade. In this regard, she revealed that "a platform will be created for all companies to present their job offers," in addition to those presented at "Open Days #Youth Employment."

"While we are currently organising the "open days" on three islands, this app will enable all companies based on other islands to submit job offers" to which "all young people across the Region may access and submit their applications," stressed the Regional Director.

According to Paula Andrade, the "Open Days #Youth Employment" initiative, held under the motto '#Make it Happen," intends that young Azores have an opportunity to "grab" all the measures at their disposal and "use them as tools in the active search of jobs and the fulfilment of their professional goals."

The Open Days initiative will be held on April 2 at Angra do Heroísmo Cultural Centre, Terceira Island, on April 23 at Manuel de Arriaga House in Horta, Faial Island, on May 6 at the Sea Pavilion, São Miguel Island.

The event runs from 9 AM to 8 PM. It is primarily directed to young people up to the age of 30, who are applying for job vacancies, traineeships and employment programmes or searching for entrepreneurship opportunities as well as to entrepreneurs and recruiters.

It is also an opportunity for companies to present their business areas through stands or individual presentations, which will provide information on job opportunities and sought-after recruitment profiles.

Young people may also count on the support provided by the services of the Regional Directorates for Employment and Vocational Training, Support to the Investment and Youth, and SDEA - Society for Business Development of the Azores.
