Regional Government participates in international forum that consolidates the role of European islands in energy transition

The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for Energy, participates in the fourth follow-up forum of the European Commission's Clean Energy for EU Islands initiative. This is a tool at the service of the development of European policies that assigns a leading role to the islands and archipelagos in the energy transition.

This forum, which runs from today until Friday in Croatia, will facilitate dialogue and discussion on strategies to promote clean, safe, competitive and affordable energy for all. According to the Regional Director for Energy, it is "a unique opportunity to project and demonstrate the work underway in the Azores, while opening doors to new partnerships across borders."

“Implementing emerging energy solutions and technologies that can also mitigate the effects of climate change in this way is a global aspiration,” said Andreia Carreiro. In this regard, she pointed out that "the Azores have stood out in this area, among other spaces with similar realities, for their ability to face the challenges that the archipelago reality imposes and to transform them into opportunities."

The Regional Director also recalled that the Azores were one of 26 islands and archipelagos selected by the European Commission to present their agenda for energy transition under the "Clean Energy for EU Islands" initiative.

“In this context, the Regional Government is preparing the Azorean Energy Strategy, with a 2030 horizon, which responds to the needs of the Azores as an archipelago and Outermost Region as well as of Azorean companies and families towards the creation of a low-carbon, prosperous and modern society," said Andreia Carreiro.
