Ponta Delgada ,  June 06, 2018

Project presented for Calheta de Pêro de Teive meets deadlinesand guidelines set by the Regional Government

The Vice-President of the Government considered that the architecture project presented by Discovery Fund for Calheta de Pêro de Teive in Ponta Delgada complies with the guidelines defined by the Regional Government. It involves the demolition and volume reduction of the unfinished shopping galleries, the creation of a green area and the construction of a hotel.

"I would like to point out that, today, we fulfil a commitment we have made when we set to organise this process," said Sérgio Ávila. He spoke at the end of a meeting for the presentation of the project developed by Discovery Fund project for Calheta de Pêro de Teive.

As Sérgio Ávila added, the Regional Government has managed to move forward with a process that was "stalled by channelling funds from a credible investor that has managed to complete Azor Hotel, Furnas Spa Hotel and implement the Casino project."

The government official expressed his satisfaction with the progress made "over the last few years," ensuring that these interventions "have fully complied with deadlines set in the context of the recovery process for Calheta de Pêro de Teive."

In this context, the deadline for the submission of the architecture project was set at 90 days, after the municipality made the request for prior information available. The work will begin within four months upon the issuance of the construction license by Ponta Delgada Municipal Council.

"Tomorrow will be exactly 90 days since the approval of the prior request for information by the City Council. Once more, the Discovery Fund is complying with the stipulated commitments and deadlines by presenting the final implementation of the architecture project in due time," said Sérgio Ávila.

With the project amounting to 13 million Euros, the "goals defined" by the Regional Government for the recovery and redevelopment of Calheta de Pêro de Teive are also met.

"Firstly, it is important to reduce the volume of existing constructions substantially, re-establish the connection between the city and the sea and, lastly, return the area of Calheta to the population," emphasised the Vice-President of the Government.

The project also includes a vast green area and underground parking. It creates the conditions for the development of another four-star hotel that, according to Sérgio Ávila, will enhance "not only the area, but the tourism offer of S. Miguel Island," thus generating more and better employment.
