Number of registered unemployed in the Azores drops in July and is the lowest in the last 34 months

According to the newsletter released by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training of the National Government, the number of unemployed registered at regional employment centres dropped again in July.

"In the end of July, the Azores recorded the lowest number of registered unemployed in the last 34 months," stressed the Vice-President of the Regional Government.

Sérgio Ávila explained that "there has not been such a low number of registered unemployed in the Region since October 2012." We have managed "to reduce the number of registered unemployed by seven percent, compared to the same period of 2014, and register a decrease of three percent over the month of June."

"This also means that we have been consolidating the strategies towards the employment growth and the sustainable reduction in unemployment," said Sérgio Ávila.

The Vice-President of the Government also pointed out that, "according to the data recently released by INE, the growth of employment in the Region was about six percent in the last quarter. It is the highest figure since 2001, i.e., the highest employment growth rate in 14 years. "

Despite the confirmation of the strategy to "revitalise employment to reduce unemployment," the Regional Government "will focus on the Azoreans who are still unemployed" so that they can be "in the same situation of those who found a job recently," said Sérgio Ávila.

"The unemployed who still exist in the Azores are the main priority of our policies. We believe the path we have followed towards a consistent and consolidated reduction of unemployment will certainly find a response to those who still do not have it," said the Vice-President of the Government.
