Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation participates in Plenary Session of National Youth Parliament
The Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation participates, on behalf of the President of the Government, in the Plenary Session of the National Youth Parliament to be held in Lisbon tomorrow at the Republic Assembly.
This institutional initiative of the Republic Assembly, whose theme for this year’s session will be Youth Civic Participation, is organised in collaboration with the Youth Portuguese Institute and the Governments of the Azores and Madeira, with the purpose of promoting the education for citizenship and encouraging the interest of youngsters in debating current issues.
The Azores will be represented by eight students from the basic and secondary schools of Calheta and Santa Maria, from the Vitorino Nemésio Secondary School and from the São Jorge Vocational Training School.
The Azorean youngsters were elected from the 43 students of secondary and vocational training schools of the Autonomous Region that participated in the Youth Parliament in the Regional session which took place on March 24, a session that was attended by the Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation, Rodrigo Oliveira.
On the occasion, the Azorean representatives presented a recommendation project to be brought before the National session which will take place now. This project defends the creation of “youth forums on the internet, moderated by a professional team” and of an “inter-school voluntary network for the resolution of national and international projects in the resolution of global problems.”
The creation of community work programmes in which the beneficiaries of the social integration minimum income may be included as well as the creation of Student Assemblies for high school students are other measures envisaged in this project.
