The support of the Government of the Azores to the organisation of the “Azores Islands Pro” competition in the archipelago is integrated in a set of initiatives intended to promote the Region as tourist destination, thus enhancing their promotion abroad, considered the Regional Secretary for the Economy on Monday.
Vasco Cordeiro spoke during the presentation of one of the stages of the world qualifying series (WQS) for the Surf World Cup, men and women, held in Ribeira Grande this week and reminded the Government’s support awarded to the organisation of other events, such as the case of the Azores SATA Rally or the presentation ceremony of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal, considering that these “are initiatives with a wide media coverage that contribute to the promotion of the Region.”
Furthermore, the Regional Secretary added that the association of the Azores to this type of initiative “is also important as the Region may assert itself as a privileged destination for Nature tourism with a huge potential for organising different activities, such as surf competitions, among others.”
Over one hundred and fifty surfers will participate in the “Azores Islands Pro” competition, including some of the world’s best surfers and its organisation in the Azores is financially supported by the Regional Secretariat for the Economy.”
