Government displeased with measures proposed by the European Union for dairy sector
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry was not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries which took place in Luxembourg.
For Noé Rodrigues, the amount of 208 millions proposed by the EU Commission to tackle the difficulties of the dairy sector “is derisory and will not solve any problem.”
According the Regional Secretary, the solution passes through the “increase of the volume and amount of the support for intervention and exportation, thus achieving an improvement in the prices paid the European producers.
Regarding the dairy sector, the Regional Government has repeatedly advocated among national and Community entities and will to continue to advocate for the maintenance of the quota system, considering that this system is beneficial for disadvantaged regions and with geographical constraints such as the case of the Azores.
