Government creates support mechanism for the economic recovery of the agro-industrial sector
The Government of the Azores has decided to create a mechanism to support the investment in the economic recovery and the financial balance of the agro-industrial sector, particularly in the dairy sector.
The measure, approved at the meeting of the Council of the Government on Tuesday, is justified by the fact that some investments, developed with the purpose of integrating various agents of the dairy sector, have already been made in adverse economic and financial period, marked by difficulties, uncertainties and credit constraints.
The recently created system will require a 3.2 million Euro investment for the financial support of the organisational, financial and economic recovery of the Azorean dairy industry.
During the meeting that was held last Tuesday, the Azorean Government also approved a proposal regarding a Regional Decree-Law measures to prevent, control and reduce the presence of invasive rodent species in the archipelago.
The document also aims to ensure the sustainable use of pesticides to eradicate rodents by defining a set of procedures to be applied to human activities that could contribute directly or indirectly to the proliferation of the aforementioned species.
The strategies to control rodents which are now proposed by the Government also include the preparation of a Good Practices manual, the mandatory implementation of Rodent Control Plans for economic activities subject to official approval and the establishment of a model of concerted action between all entities involved in rodent control.
