Santa Cruz das Flores ,  January 18, 2019

Works in Santa Cruz das Flores Health Centre run as planned and Lajes Health Unit provides more services, says Rui Luís

The Regional Secretary for Health stated in Santa Cruz das Flores that the remodelling works of the Health Centre are in progress under the stipulated conditions.

"I had the opportunity to see the evolution of the work and the temporary accommodation conditions of workers and health users, thus confirming on the ground that these conditions are assured," said Rui Luís, who spoke at the end of a visit to this 1.5 million-Euro contract work that began in October.

The intervention aims to improve the organisation of spaces, with changes in the functionality of some services, including the remodelling of Inpatient Care, Emergency and Physical Therapy services.

"The works are proceeding at a normal pace and are expected to be completed within the stipulated deadline, that is, in 18 months," said Rui Luís.

During this visit to Flores, the Regional Secretary also visited the Lajes Health Unit, which covers 1,500 health users.

"The visit to this Health Unit evidenced our determination to create conditions for providing various decentralised services to the local population," stressed the government official.

This unit, like others, is mainly intended to ensure the provision of primary health care to peripheral areas away from health centres.

Rui Luís revealed that Flores Island Health Unit has carried out several consultations in this unit, namely in the areas of Nutrition, Psychology and General Practice, in addition to laboratory tests. On the occasion, he revealed that Speech Therapy and Dentist consultation will be resumed in February.

"This health unit fulfils its mission of proximity to health users, having carried out about 1,000 consultations and 5,400 nursing interventions last year," highlighted the Secretary for Health.

Each month, 12 consultation periods are made available at the Lajes das Flores Health Unit with the assistance of four general practitioners, who provide consultations according to a defined schedule.

This is one of the 102 health units located in peripheral areas throughout the Region, embodying the policies of proximity pursued by the Regional Health Service.
