Regional Government starts Monday statutory visit to Graciosa Island

The Government of the Azores begins Monday the statutory visit to Graciosa Island, during which the President of the Government will preside over the signing of a protocol with the Portuguese Institute of Rheumatology for the provision of services to the users of Carapacho Thermal Spa.

During this visit, Vasco Cordeiro will also visit works of Graciosa and Slaughterhouse and Agricultural Cooperative. He also presides over the ceremony for the allocation of support to degraded housing that will benefit about thirty dozen Graciosa islanders-

As has been customary since the beginning of the previous legislative period, the members of the Regional Government will be available to receive the Graciosa islanders who wish to pose questions directly to them. This initiative aims to strengthen the policy of proximity to the Azorean population.

On Monday afternoon, shortly after arriving on the island, Vasco Cordeiro visits the works of the new Graciosa Slaughterhouse, an investment over million Euros, and will then preside over the meeting of the Regional Government with the Island Council.

The President of the Government begins the second day of this statutory visit with the opening session of a training programme for Formal Caregivers, directed to professionals and leaders of social infrastructures for the elderly and dependent people. In the afternoon, he will preside over the signing of a protocol with the Portuguese Institute of Rheumatology for the provision of medical services, namely medical consultations in Rheumatology and Hydrology at Carapacho Thermal Spa. The second day of the statutory visit will be concluded with the meeting of the Council of the Government.

On the following day, the President of the Government will visit the Graciosa Island Winery and Agricultural Cooperative, an investment over one million Euros. He will then preside over the ceremony for the authorisation of degraded housing support, covering 10 families residing in four villages of Graciosa. At the event, he will also sign collaboration protocols with the parish councils of Santa Cruz and Guadalupe for the recovery of four buildings owned by the two local authorities.

The programme of the statutory visit, as usual, also includes visits of the members of the Government to several ongoing investments, such as the protection works of the coastal area of Barra or the remodelling of the Home Support Service of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, in addition to meetings with local various entities.

A screening to the population on smoking habits, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes and physical activity habits, the opening of Praia Viewpoint and the delivery of the "Miosótis" award to a distinguished tourism unit on Graciosa Island are some of the initiatives included in this statutory visit.
