International Youth Day celebrated with cultural and sports activities

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, and the Vila Franca Town Hall will celebrate the International Youth Day in Vila Franca do Campo next Wednesday, August 12.

The International Youth Day will be marked with a programme that includes sports, musical, recreational and educational activities in order to promote healthy lifestyles. The event will take place on Vinha D'Areia Beach in Vila Franca do Campo.

This initiative, which is also organised in partnership with the local Nautical Club and School Club, is intended to provide young people, aged between 12 and 30, with the opportunity to take part in a wide range of cultural and sport activities, which will be held from 2 PM to 8 PM.

Moreover, young people may also attend the performances of the Drums Group of Unojovens Association, Sara Cruz, Sound Box and DJ Maria and still participate in zumba classes as well as in the football and beach volley tournaments.

On this day,  the Regional Directorate for Youth will also disseminate some of its initiatives, namely the "Interjovem" Card, the project designated as "Before you Discriminate me, Know me!" and the programme intended to encourage the creativity of young people - "LABJOVEM."

The International Youth Day has been celebrated since 1999, following a resolution issued by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
