Vasco Cordeiro to receive delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development next Tuesday
The President of the Government receives Tuesday a delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development to discuss the effects of the European Union's Cohesion Policy on the Outermost Regions.
The meeting will take place at Santana Palace in Ponta Delgada in the beginning of three-day visit to the Azores. It will allow us to analyse issues such as the application of European funds in the archipelago or the future of the Cohesion Policy in the ORs.
In this context, the visit of a delegation composed of 13 MEPs is of particular relevance, given that Outermost Regions presented a Memorandum to the European Commission at the end of March in Brussels, highlighting their priorities and expectations for the development of these regions, where European solidarity takes on particular significance.
On the other hand, the visit of MEPs to the Azores also takes place at a time when the European Commission is awaiting the publication of the mid-term evaluation of the Cohesion Policy and the financial framework that supports it.
On this visit to the Azores, the Delegation of the Committee on the European Parliament's Regional Development will visit several projects funded by EU funds, such as Pico Vermelho Geothermal Centre, Furnas Monitoring and Research Centre, NONAGON - São Miguel Science and Technology Park, Angra do Heroísmo Public Library and Regional Archive or Praia da Viória Port, among others.
