The regional secretary for Education and Science defended today, in Ponta Delgada, that the Assembly of the Regions of Europe (ARE) must be one of the pillars of the European construction itself.
In the opening session of the Eurydice Forum 2008 of the ARE, which Álamo Meneses presided in representation of the president of the Government, he alleged to be very important that Europe is built from the bases, of the regions, and from who are nearer of the Europeans and of their needs and longings.
The Azorean governor defended, also, that the European construction must establish in a regional foundation, being able to be strengthened, if the Europeans know better the several regions of Europe and if they known themselves.
The regional secretary added that this objective will only be able to be reached through good programs of mobility, allowing to the participant youngsters to create ties that materialize the European construction.
“The European construction cannot only be a phenomenon of standards and domes, it must suit the bases, the people”, it warned Álamo Meneses.
Therefore, he highlighted the importance of the Eurydice, created in 1985, and underlined the advantages of the functioning of the programs operated as part of the Assembly of the Regions of Europe that allow mobility in the professional area and an extremely interesting and valuable exchange of professional experiences for all.
He, equally, extolled a bigger proximity between the regions of Europe and their respective political structures, in way that the force of the outermost regions can materialize itself in the Assembly of the Regions of Europe.
The secretary for Education and Science still enhanced the participation in the two days meeting, which happens in Pavilhão do Mar, of a representation of Quebec, in Canada, whose presence allows extending the European connection to the other edge of the ocean.
In his opinion, it is important that the Assembly of the Regions of Europe assumes a vision of union between people that share a common destiny.
When referring to the enlargement to East, Álamo Meneses suggested being advantageous that that takes place, in the presupposition of one unity that includes all the people and regions of Europe.
In the meeting nearly 170 representatives participated from the regions of Europe, namely, from Germany, France, England, Spain, Norway, Croatia, Russia, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Belgium, Switzerland and Poland, who will be going to debate, with several specialists, the issues of the regional identity in united Europe.
The Eurydice was the first program of mobility in Europe, being directed, since January, by the president of the Government of the Azores, Carlos César, who presides at the program, and by Rui Bettencourt, regional director for Employment and Vocational Training, invested in the functions of secretary-general.
In the Eurydice Forum 2008 it participates, for the first time, at invitation of the Azores, the director of the Vocational Mobility and representative of the Government of Quebec, Alfred Pilon, as well as the president of the Assembly of the Regions of Europe and vice president of the Parisian Region, Michèle Sabban, by initiative of the chief of the Azorean executive, Carlos César.
