Ponta Delgada ,  June 29, 2008

Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training giving a speech

Vocational training keeps on growing in the Azores

The students' number that opts for the vocational training in the Azores is already perceptibly the same as that of those that frequent the regular secondary teaching.

The revelation was done this afternoon, in Ponta Delgada, by the regional director for Employment and Vocational Training, in a speech in the ceremony of delivery of diplomas to the pupils that finished their vocational courses level III in the EPROSEC– Escola Profissional do Sindicato de Escritório e Comércio da Região Autónoma dos Açores.

The high quality of the teaching, its adaptation to the needs of the world of work in the Region and the degree of employment that it grants are some of the reasons that Rui Bettencourt, who was presiding to the ceremony in representation of the president of the Government, Carlos César, indicated to this continuous growth of the option for the vocational training.

He pointed out that “it isn’t by chance” that the number of young people looking for the first job “represents only 18%” of the number that was checked a few years ago, attributing this success, in great part, to the high degree of vocational training that is registered today.

Another trump that the responsible person for the area of Employment and Training of the regional executive explained for this success has to do with the fact of the Azores being one of only four regions of the European Union that does a regular inquiry to the enterprises on the real needs of labor, which it allows to orientate the vocational schools in the definition of the courses to develop.

Along with that, the Government of the Azores provides a plan of traineeships that allows to the recently graduates to get immediately in touch with the world of work and, very often, to end up being hired by the enterprises where they are doing the traineeship.

In the ceremony, training certificates were handed to more than two hundred pupils of the Escola Profissional do Sindicato de Escritório e Comércio, graduated in more than a ten of areas.
