Regional Labour Inspectorate takes action in defence of security workers

Having taken note of the changes to the services provided by workers at the security booths of the Regional Port Authorities and the Regional Centre of RTP Açores, the Regional Labour Inspection (IRT) has already promoted a follow-up action with the workers affected by this situation.

In this context, the IRT has already informed workers that their jobs will not suffer changes arising from the termination of security services.

According to the supervisory authority, workers will not be transferred and will maintain their jobs with their companies as the transfer of the aforementioned security booths are not considered organised economic units and, thus, do not fall under the concept of business transfer.

The position taken by the Regional Labour Inspectorate is grounded on the Judgement of the Supreme Court of Justice of December 6, 2017 and supported by Unions.

Within the scope of this action, promoted by the entity responsible for monitoring the compliance with labour standards, several visits have been carried out, involving six inspectors.

Considering the defence of workers' rights and the supervision of compliance with legislation, the IRT will continue to follow closely this situation.
