Registration for 11th Azores Waste Week open until November 13

The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, will hold the 11th Azorean Waste Week between November 21 and 29. The initiative is promoted under the 12th European Waste Prevention Week with the aim of including actions organised by public and private entities on all islands of the archipelago.

Held under theme “Invisible Waste,” the European Waste Prevention Week challenges participants to inform themselves and raise awareness among the population about the huge amount of waste that is unconsciously produced.

Extending the life of products through reuse and repair, buying second-hand products, renting and sharing products instead of purchasing them are some of the measures that can be adopted to reduce the amount of waste produced.

Any entity interested in promoting awareness and information actions as well as activities dedicated to the theme of education and communication for the reduction of waste production can register as "Promoter of Actions" under the Waste Week until November 13, through the form available at http://www.ewwr.eu/register

The initiative is open to entities that fall into the following categories: Administration/Public Authority; Association/NGO; Company/Industry; School Establishment; Individuals; Others (hospitals, nursing homes, cultural institutions, etc.).

The European Waste Reduction Week is an international initiative aimed at implementing, for a week, awareness-raising actions on the sustainable management of resources and waste in order to change the behaviour of European citizens with regard to their consumption habits.

The Regional Directorate for the Environment is the coordinating entity of the European Waste Prevention Week in the Azores. Last year, 195 actions were promoted throughout the archipelago, involving 91 entities.

For further information, interested parties should contact the Regional Directorate for the Environment by telephone 292 207 300, at the email [email protected] or consult the information available at http://www.azores.gov.pt/Gra/srrn-residuos/menus/secundario/Semana+dos+Residuos/.
