Supporting creativity is the best way to foster civic participation of young people, says Regional Director
The Regional Director for Youth stressed in Horta that creativity is an "excellent form" of civic participation, being "another way through which young people can and should actively participate in society."
Lúcio Rodrigues spoke during a press conference for the presentation of the 3rd C(H)orta - Short Film Festival of Faial, an initiative promoted by AJIFA - Faial Youth Association with the support of the Regional Government, through Regional Directorate for Youth.
According to the Regional Director, young Azoreans "want to actively participate in the communities where they belong to, but they also need to have an opportunity to demonstrate their full contribution and value."
"In this regard, I believe that creativity plays a fundamental role, but sometimes it lacks stimulation, and this is precisely what give to our young people," said the government official.
Lúcio Rodrigues praised the "role of young creators," emphasising that the C(H)orta Festival goes "far beyond a simple talent contest," affirming itself as "another tool and another challenge to call young Azoreans to actions and civic engagement."
C(H)orta is a short film festival that aims to stimulate young people's creativity and proactivity.
This year's edition takes place at Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School and at Teatro Faialense between October 24 and 27.
