The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Youth and the Regional Directorate for Education and Training is implementing the Education Programme for Entrepreneurship with the support of the Entrepreneurship Centre of the University of the Azores in a partnership with Gesentrepreneur and CGInternational, and he teachers from Basic Education, Secondary and Vocational Training Schools.
The Regional Director for Youth stressed the importance of this programme, which places the Azores as one of the first regions to implement entrepreneurship projects at a national level with the entrepreneurial groups at schools, thus creating an educational environment adapted to the reality of the archipelago.
This programme is designed to motivate Middle and Junior High School students as well as Secondary and Vocational Training School students to become entrepreneurs. The dissemination of the concept of “entrepreneurial spirit” as an alternative to develop among students the skills to turn their ambitions into successful projects and investment in the development of the Azorean society is another goal of this initiative.
Developing entrepreneurial skills and enhancing the creation of more and better companies is what the Government intends with the implementation of the project “Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success!” which involves the participation of teachers so that they may bring to the school context a new mentality, which is beyond cultural prejudices, and contribute to a more balanced society.
On the occasion, Fabíola Cardoso, the Regional Directorate for Education and Training, stressed the importance of 55 teachers from 26 schools, who have conveyed their willingness to ensure this active role. In order to promote an entrepreneurial society, the theme of entrepreneurship was included in the syllabus of Citizenship Education.
