The Government of the Azores, in collaboration with various social partners, continues to analyse the milk and dairy sector to find mechanisms that positively discriminate the Azores in view of the end of the milk quota system in the European Union, starting in the 2014/2015 campaign.
On the part of the Government, in addition to establishing dialogues between the representatives of the dairy producers and industrials, the “need to develop the analysis of the market situation as well as of the dairy sector in the aftermath of the dismantling of the milk quota system was also emphasised in order to find a coherent and strong position for the Azores in order to defend and protect the Azorean dairy sector in Brussels.
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry met with the representatives of the producers from São Miguel and the dairy industry on Friday to analyse a proposal submitted by the producers’ organisations that “aims to create a seasonal evolution mechanism and not its sudden application, as it happens at the present time, on a certain day of a certain month of the year to change the price of the milk paid to producers,” underlined Noé Rodrigues.
The Regional Secretary believes that we regard to the price of the milk paid to producers “there is always room for solidarity between the parties and even room to achieve a better efficiency in the sector.”
