Number of registered unemployed in the Azores is the lowest of the last 41 months

The Vice-President of the Government stressed the "consistent and sustained reduction" in the number of unemployed registered at regional employment centres, pointing out that it is "the lowest figures of the last 41 months."

According to the data released by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training of the National Government in the latest newsletter, the Azores register 10,652 unemployed in the end of March.

"A decrease of 7.3 percent in the number of unemployed compared to the same of last year is, perhaps, what is even most important and relevant regarding this figure," the Vice-President said, stressing we are in the face of "a substantially higher than elsewhere in the country."

For Sérgio Ávila, it is also important to note that job offers grew 114 percent in March compared to the same month last year, which confirms "the trend that has been observed over the3 last year."

"This outcome is the result of a concerted policy between active employment policies created by the Government in the context of the Azorean Agenda for Employment Creation and the intervention of companies and several institutions," the Vice-President stressed, adding that, month after month, "we have been able to reduce the number of unemployed and increase the working population.”

"These results give us satisfaction and confidence to continue following the path we have followed," the President of the Government said, adding that the Government "will do everything" to reduce unemployment and increase employment.

"Bearing in mind that this has been the priority we have set for the current term, the results confirm that we have achieved this goal. They also confirm that we must continue this path, with more intensity and more efforts, so that we can further reduce the number of unemployed and create even more jobs, thus maintaining the trend that has been observed over the last years," says Sérgio Ávila.
