Azores written on balloon about fight against climate change to be sent to Copenhagen Summit
The name of the Azores was written today by André Bradford, the Regional Secretary for the Presidency, on the balloon that will fly from Brussels to Copenhagen, in order to convey the concerns of the European regions regarding climate change to the negotiators of a possible Kyoto Protocol.
This symbolic gesture not only marks the profound commitment of European region in the fight against climate change, but also underlines the need for future strategies at a global level that comprise a regional approach, as regions are the first are the resolution level of catastrophes as well as of the impact of these changes.
The balloon was released near the Berlaymont building, the headquarters of the European Commission, under the 81st Plenary Session of the Committee of the Regions and of 7th edition of the Open Days, where André Bradford represents the Region.
