Social policies provide better development conditions

The opening of spaces as the Free Time Occupation Centre in Lomba do Loução and Lomba do Alcaide or the new ICT (information and communication technology) space in Lomba do Alcaide “brings meaning to politics” as it meets the needs of all citizens, providing them with the assurance “that their children are at a space where the necessary conditions for their physical, intellectual and social development are ensured,” stressed the Regional Secretary for the Economy on Sunday.

Vasco Cordeiro, who attended on behalf of the President of the Government the opening of these three new spaces, defended that this type of initiative is “the meeting point between two entities, local and regional powers, towards the development of a true social policy that supports not only youngsters, but also the Azorean families, who found safety and tranquillity in these spaces.”

The Secretary also stressed “the meritorious action of the Povoação Town Hall, which despite the known constraints did not hesitate to mobilise its resources and efforts so that more people can benefit from another an infrastructure installed in their neighbourhood.”

In the case of the Free Time Occupation Centre and ICT space installed in Lomba do Alcaide, “this effort is even more remarkable as it is the recovery of an old elementary school, representing the returning of a public space to the population with a new purpose which also fills a gap” in this type of infrastructures.

For Vasco Cordeiro, “the role of the Povoação Town Hall is even more commendable because it has not hesitated to carry out the work despite the existing constraints.”

Therefore, the Regional Secretary for the Economy stressed that “this example is even more remarkable, demonstrating a considerate and careful approach to enhance the available resources in order to provide the community with the best possible conditions at the present time.”
