The Regional Secretary for the Economy allotted a maximum amount of two million Euros to the funds that the Regional Government will grant to private companies to promote the Region as a tourist destination abroad.
The legal dispatch of the Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, states that funds that are granted to private tourism operators in the promotion of the Azores in the tourism sector fall within the Governments programme of incentives to directly or indirectly promote the Region as a tourist destination through the implementation of measures and initiatives of “public interest.”
The measures and initiatives that can apply for funding are identified in the regional legislation of 2005 which sets, on an annual basis, the amounts that are available for financing.
