“Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success” available on e-learning platform for Azorean schools
The entrepreneurial eructation programme, promoted by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Youth and the Regional Directorate for Education and Training, in a partnership with the Entrepreneurship Centre of the University of the Azores, is available one-learning platform for students and teachers from Azorean schools.
For this purpose, the subject “Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success” was integrated in the learning management system of the University of the Azores for the year 2010/201 and contains all the information on the training course for teachers, held from September 6 to 10, as well as support materials and useful links. This is an education and training MOODLE platform, widely used among teachers, which allows the schools participating in this Project to create message boards and databases, hold chats, share photos and videos, and publish news.
This platform in conjunction with the project’s microsite (http://www.edu.empreendedora.azores.gov.pt/) aims to encourage collaborative learning and exchange among peers.
The next stage of the project will move ahead with the beginning of the Entrepreneurship classes, based on a “learning-by-doing” model, including a key activity known as “Entrepreneur for a day,” a practical experience that consists in the development of an actual mini-business plan in which students will have the opportunity to become entrepreneurs on the streets of their city, town or village.
Simultaneously, Entrepreneurship Clubs will be created, the entities in charge of fostering entrepreneurship in schools, and a network between schools will be created as well. The Regional Competition “IdeiAçores” will be organised in the end of the school year. In this competition, students must form teams, choose a business idea, create a project, based on a business plan, in which they are required to present and describe their idea. These projects must also include a financial plan in order to ensure their financial viability.
This project involves 55 teachers from middle and junior high schools as well as from secondary and vocational training schools, who will be followed by a team in charge of monitoring and controlling its implementation, providing logistical support and making the assessment process.
With this initiative, the Government intends to promote the creation an educational environment in the Azores, conducive to the emergence of new companies with motivated and determined entrepreneurs.
