Government imposes conditions for the reorganisation of Pico Winemaking Cooperative
The Government of the Azores is available to participate in the Pico Island Winemaking Cooperative economic and financial reorganisation programme, but demands some conditions.
The information was provided today in Madalena by the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry at the end of a meeting with the Board of that Winemaking Cooperative.
According to Noé Rodrigues, the economic and financial situation of the cooperative, which was analysed today, determines the necessity of “establishing a programme to promote its financial reorganisation.”
Nonetheless, the Secretary added that the development of this programme must be accompanied by “some measures that reinforce the capacity and management accuracy which are mandatory in this circumstance.”
Within the context of the Government’s statutory visit to Pico Island, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry met today with the leaders of the “Flor de Incenso” apicultural cooperative and of the LACTOPICO cooperative.
With regard to the first meeting, Noé Rodrigues said the he received the “good news about the increase of honey production” on the Island, particularly pittosporum (incense) blossom honey.
“We are now going to develop an identification process of the aforementioned honey and its origin,” added the Secretary.
Concerning the meeting with LACTOPICO, the Secretary said that the “complementary support programme to dairy farms” was under analysis, thus reinforcing its sustainability and competiveness in a forthcoming future.
Hence, we will increase the “support to the investments in its infrastructures in the context of its environmental renewal,” explained Noé Rodrigues.
