Literary talk in Caloura, São Miguel, marks 270th anniversary of arrival of Azoreans in Santa Catarina, Brazil

The Regional Government promotes Saturday, October 21, a "Talk about literature" under the theme "Azores and Santa Catarina: literary approaches" at Caloura Cultural Centre on São Miguel at 6 PM.
 
This talk about Azorean influence in Santa Catarina's literature will be attended by the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, Rui Bettencourt, and features university professors Lélia Nunes (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Vamberto Freitas (Azores) as speakers. The debate will be moderated by Aníbal Pires.
 
The programme of the event also includes a musical moment with Ricardo Melo, Azorean musician and music education teacher, who has contributed to the study, dissemination and appreciation of "Viola da Terra" (traditional Azorean guitar).
 
This initiative, open to all interested parties, falls within the celebrations of the 270th anniversary of the Azorean presence in Santa Catarina and is part of the activities promoted under the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
 
The year of 2018 was declared the "Year of the Azores" in Florianopolis as a tribute to the contribution of the Azorean presence and its cultural legacy to the development of this city and the State of Santa Catarina, where the first Azoreans who emigrated to southern Brazil arrived on February 22, 1748.
 
After 270 years, the Azorean presence in the tangible and intangible heritage are still quite visible, especially in literature, as well as the dynamics of several organisations developing several initiatives in favour of the Azores in Santa Catarina.
