Press release from the Regional Health Authority

The Regional Health Authority reports that one positive case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on the island of São Miguel in the last 24 hours, following the 852 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.

The diagnosed case corresponds to a 10-year-old male, non-resident in the Azores, who arrived in the Region on June 27 via a flight from Mainland Portugal. The first test results for COVID-19 infection were inconclusive.

The individual, who is the child of the 42-year-old female, the most recent positive case identified in the Region, is clinically stable clinical has been observing quarantine upon arrival in the Region."

The procedures defined for confirmed cases surveillance of close contacts, which are common to the last positive case identified in the Region, are being carried out by the Municipal Health Delegation.

So far, 153 cases of infection with the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have already been detected in the Region, with five active positive cases: four on the island of São Miguel and one on Terceira island.

Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
