The Government of the Azores has been increasingly supporting and encouraging beekeeping and honey production in general in the Region.
This incentive has been carried out in several ways, including the organisation of professional training courses, the support to the health control of hives and apiaries as well as the support to the investment and modernisation, but mainly through the promotion and dissemination of “Azorean Honey.”
The 8th edition of the National Honey Fair will be held in Ourém from November 13 to November 15 in simultaneously to the various technical seminars and the organisation of the 10th National Beekeeping Forum.
This event has become the most important national event with regard to beekeeping and honey production, being an asset to honey production cooperatives as well as to the dissemination and marketing of their products. Moreover, it is place to learn and to become acquainted with the most relevant actions that have been carried out in this sector in our country.
As in previous years, the Azores will have a prominent place at this event, being the most representative of all national regions, displaying a stand where the official services will be represented and all beekeepers’ cooperatives/organisations in the Azores, thereby allowing them to promote their products.
The Azorean Delegation is composed by 40 elements from various islands, counting upon the Government’s support. It will be another way to strengthen the Azorean agricultural diversification and consequently boost the Azorean rural economy.
