Diploma that simplifies PROENERGIA comes into force in the Azores next Thursday

The amendments introduced in January to PROENERGIA in order to simplify that incentive system to the production of energy from renewable sources will come into force in the Azores next Thursday.

By initiative of the Government, the Legislative Assembly of the Azores has reformulated the PROENERGIA programme with the purpose of promoting clean energy sources among Azorean companies and families.

In addition to simplifying procedures, the new diploma reduces reduce the minimum investment required to companies to 1000 Euros, changes the maximum limit of the awarded support (which now comprises 50% of the eligible expenses up to maximum of 5,000 Euros) and removes f the sale limit of the surplus to the public network, in the case of electricity production.

Under this new diploma, published in the Official Journal last Wednesday, the projects applying for this support measure should include investments in the exploitation of renewable energy resources for the micro-production of electric power or calorific energy, using endogenous resources, or investments in the exploitation of the thermal solar resource and heat pumps for hot water production.

The projects primarily intended for self-consumption promoted by small and medium companies, cooperatives, including individuals, non-profitable associations and condominiums may benefit from a financial support under this programme.

This support measure comprises the expenses with the acquisition and installation of essential equipments for the implementation of the project as well as with the adaptation of installations, including the adaptation to the compliance with the environmental and safety rules, up to a limit of 10% of the eligible investment.

The PROENERGIA programme was created in summer 2006 with the goal of enhancing the use of renewable energy sources by companies and families.
