The President of the Regional Government of the Azores showed today his satisfaction for the victory of the democratic candidate for the American presidential elections.
"I see with great sympathy the capital of positive innovation that this election of Obama represents for the World, but it is very important for the Americans, in whom we include the hundreds of thousands of Portuguese people of first and second generation and specifically the ones originating from the Azores that live there, a change in the inland policies that benefits them", said Carlos César.
For the president of the Government, the financial crisis in the United States affects the budget and turns many American-Portuguese families fragile that he personally knows, some of which are also affected by the unemployment and are without protection in the health.
"The change that took place has an enormous socio-political symbolism, but it has as an almost immediate challenge the answer to a very demanding hope of the million Americans who are in very difficult situation", he added.
"Obama will certainly be a much more sensitive President than was Bush face to the problems of the immigrants in the United States", Carlos César concluded.
