Visitors of the Reserva Florestal de Recreio do Cabouco Velho, in the parish of Salão, island of Faial, will have a new belvedere at their disposal after June.
The construction of this new belvedere, which is the responsibility of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, has begun. Traditional building materials will be used in its construction, such as basalt brickwork and it will include a parking area for automobiles and buses.
The many tourists and local visitors that visit the Parque do Cabouco, especially in the Summer, will be able to opt for a walk up to the newly build belvedere, situated at an altitude of 800 meters, where it will be possible to view the city of Horta in its entirety and observe the islands of Pico, São Jorge and Graciosa.
Other public works to be undertaken in the area during the current year will include the construction of circuits for hiking, pedestrian bridge, requalification of the animal display and improving the leisure areas.
These public works are a part of a global project of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry that is estimated to cost six million Euros.
On the island of Faial, the Reservas Florestais de Recreio da Falca e Capelo (Natural Reserves), each with 14 and 95 hectares respectively, will also be improved.
