Praia da Vitória ,  October 23, 2019

Vasco Cordeiro highlights challenge of “selling more and better” what is produced in the Azores

The President of the Government opened today the new facilities of the Pescatum company's plant in Praia da Vitória. This investment of more than 1.6 million Euros is another example of how we can overcome the challenge of creating more value for what is produced in the Azores.

“Ultimately, it is a matter of overcoming the challenge of selling better, with increasing value, what we produce in our Region” in the various sectors of activity, stated Vasco Cordeiro on the second day of the Regional Government's visit to Terceira Island.

At the opening of the upgrading works of this plant, which received public support amounting to more than one million Euros, the President of the Government assured that this investment is “welcome in the Azores,” as is the case of any other company or sector wishing to invest in the Region.

“All those who, in the development of their activity and in the fulfilment of their legitimate business interests, contribute to the achievement of these regional goals are most welcome to the Azores and let there be no doubt about that”, stressed Vasco Cordeiro.

On the other hand, the President of the Government highlighted the clear concern with the conditions to leverage the fisheries and the sea economy sectors in the future, not only in regards wealth generation in the Region but also in regards the recognition of occupations linked to this sector.

“This is why, for example, the Azores Maritime School is being created with the primary goal of acknowledging the value of occupations related to the sea," said Vasco Cordeiro. According to him, the Government values business projects that also show “a clear concern to provide employees with better working conditions, even more so as there are to increase their number.”

“The challenge of rendering the entire fisheries sector more competitive, capable of generating more value in the Region as well as more and better paid jobs, is only achieved when it will be possible to create value for products,” said Vasco Cordeiro. In this regard, he made a point of highlighting the "contribution of the men and women who, every day, turn business projects into reality" in companies.
