Regional Inspectorate of Health ensures quality and transparency of services

Enhancing the Regional Health Service to serve citizens with quality and
transparency is the goal of the Regional Inspectorate of Health, whose official entered into office on Tuesday.

In his speech, Miguel Correia said that this body aims to ensure the compliance with the rules and regulations in force in the area of health in order to guarantee “the quality of the services rendered, the fulfilment of the users’ rights and the safeguard of public interests.”

The performance of the Regional Inspectorate of Health should therefore assure citizens that health professionals are complying with their work schedules or ensuring respect, kindness, humanism at the difference attendance levels of healthcare units as well as to guarantee that the quality of medical and nursing actions meet the established requirements.

Taking into account the current situation, mentioned Miguel Correia, “at a time when we are introducing changes in the access to medicines, it is important to know whether all the requirements that ensure public health are being met, particularly in medicine distribution, either by stockholders or regional pharmacies.

It is equally important to know if and when healthcare units have implemented the cost reduction measures under the policy to combat waste in regional hospitals.

Finally, it is also necessary to know whether the agreements in force in the Regional Health Service, concerning laboratory tests, imaging, physical therapy or assisted reproduction, are operational as well as to assess if they are, in fact, an asset to the Regional Health Service.”

Hence, the Regional Inspectorate for Health when promoting quality of service is simultaneously bringing the administration closer to citizens.”
The scope of the Regional Inspectorate of Health comprises public and private healthcare units, “always bearing in mind a perspective to safeguard our commitment to people and the fulfilment of their rights.”

Miguel Correia conveyed his belief that Paulo Gomes will be succeed in the creation of an inspectorate that, in addition to defending technical and legal accuracy as well as discipline, will also be able to defend urbanity, common sense and pedagogy.

Paulo Jorge Gomes, who was sworn in as Regional Inspector for Health on Tuesday, holds a Law degree from the University of Lisbon and a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law, having submitted a dissertation on the on file sharing on the Internet and copyright law, which was distinguished.
