The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Ciolos, has accepted the invitation of the President of the Government of the Azores to make an official visit to the archipelago.
Carlos César had made the invitation in a letter sent to the new commissioner, congratulating him by his recent appointment. The European Commissioner has recently replied to this letter, conveying his desire to visit the Azores in 2010, preferably in the months of October or November.
Dacian Ciolos desires to become personally acquainted with the specificities of an outermost region such as the Azores; for that reason visits to some animal husbandry farms are being prepared as well as the establishment of contacts with regional farmers.
The end of the milk quota system in 2015, the dairy premium, the Common Market Organisation for Wine and the Sugar Factory of SINAGA are some of the themes to be addressed at the meetings to be held during the visit of the European Commissioner.
Dacian Ciolos, who officially entered into office as European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in February, was born in Romania; he is 40 years old and he holds a degree in agronomy engineering.
