"Renovated Home, Inhabited Home" programme already supported 53 families on six islands, an investment of 1.1 million Euros

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated on the island of São Jorge that the support granted under the new "Renovated Home, Inhabited Home," in the "Renovating for Living" component, has already benefited 53 Azorean families, an investment from the Regional Government amounting to more than 1.1 million Euros.

"We are talking about applications submitted during the confinement period, in the months of April and May, when families sent the documents they could only obtain without leaving home, having been later complemented with the remaining documents," Andreia Cardoso said.

The Regional Secretary spoke during the granting ceremony of support under the "Renovating for Living" component of the "Renovated Home, Inhabited Home" programme to 11 families on the island of São Jorge, an investment of almost 244 thousand Euros.

“We are talking about a global sum of 1.1 million Euros granted under the "Renovating for Living" applications submitted by 53 families in just two months, from the islands of Pico, Terceira, Santa Maria, Graciosa, São Miguel and now São Jorge,” added the government official.

“This means that these 53 families, including the 11 families supported today, did not hesitate to apply for this new programme, even in difficult times, which shows that the simplification of application procedures also improved the access conditions to this programme," explained the government official.

As part of the visit to São Jorge Island, Andreia Cardoso also chaired the signing ceremony of a support management agreement with the Parish Council of Calheta for the eradication of termite infestation in 15 local buildings, corresponding to an investment of 100 thousand Euros.

The government official recalled that a joint action with the Regional Directorate for the Environment began in November 2017 with the aim of eliminating termite infestation in all buildings identified on the islands of Pico, São Jorge and Santa Maria.

"An information session open to the population was held at that time and since then, termite infested buildings have been monitored in the cases presented, with the respective budgets for the disinfection operations being carried out," said the government official.
